Hey everyone me again.
I hate using the C word but Christmas is coming. Thought I'd put a small post on here so the group as a collective can share ideas on what's been successful in previous years. I'll start... this sleigh board was a huge hit for a Christmas eve board.

Oh I love my lasers!!! Made these the past couple of days in preparation for an upcoming gig. Thanks for the great products YoraHome! My favorite laser is my first - the 6550- over 2 years old and runs like a champ. I’ve upgraded the board, laser and x axis etc., but man this thing is a work horse!

Finally got time to do an actual engraving with the new 12v 80w laser for my 6550.
I probably should have tried something other than a low quality pic of a black dog, for my first photo with it, but I wanted to make a memorial piece for some friends who just lost their dog.
Decided to also make use of the cutting ability of the new laser.
The main piece of wood is Paulownia - although popular in Asian counties, it's still difficult to find in the U.S./Canada. It's a hardwood that's only slightly heavier than balsa wood, but has the greatest weight/strength ratio of any wood. If you come across any, I recommend getting it.
The cutouts are made using 3mm birch plywood.
Here are my settings --
As mentioned, I used the new 12v 80w laser for the 6550.
I also use LaserGrbl.
Engraving on Paulownia wood - 1600 speed - 25% power (resulted in a deep engraving)
Engraving on birch ply - 1000 speed - 30% power (1bit Dithering Sierralight)
Cutting birch ply - 300 speed - 70% power - 3 passes (pieces fell right out)
